Computer Obscurity

When creating a boot disk on an SD card with physdiskwrite, make sure the card is in FAT35 format, or else shit don’t get done.

Man, this is like being back in 10th grade…with no friends.

Take a look at the early stages of the student protest in Xinjiang that sparked yesterday’s violence. Though it’s anybody’s guess at this point what happened, there’s probably a little truth in either side’s story. The police forces in Xinjiang have a reputation for brutality; in February 1998 during protests in Gholja, police forces hosed down Uighurs, causing hundreds to freeze to death. Tensions and anti-Han sentiments, however, are also high, so it doesn’t seem out of the question that Uighurs turned their anger against their Chinese compatriots.

I’ve tried everything women are supposed to do—hobbies, gardening, pickling, canning, being very social with my neighbors, joining committes, running PTA teas. I can do it all, and I like it, but it doesn’t leave you anything to think about—any feeling of who you are. I never had any career ambitions. All I wanted was to get married and have four children. I love the kids and Bob and my home. There’s no rpoblem you can even put a name to. But I’m desperate. I begin to feel I have no personality. I’m a server of food and a putter-on of pants and a bedmaker, somebody who can be called on when you want something. But who am I? - Woman quoted in Betty Friedan, The Feminine Mystique (New York: Norton, 1963).
